Taylor Swift Cats Names: Meet Her Famous Cats and Their Stories

If you’re searching for Taylor Swift cats names, the answer is simple: Taylor Swift is famously associated with three cats, Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson, and Benjamin Button. Each name has a pop-culture connection, which makes Taylor’s cats especially interesting to fans looking for celebrity pet names or creative ideas for their own cats. The three

cats also have different backgrounds and have appeared in Taylor Swift’s public life in memorable ways, from music videos and advertising to major magazine features. Rather than choosing random celebrity-inspired names, you can look at the stories behind these names to understand what makes them distinctive.

What Are Taylor Swift’s Cats Names?

Taylor Swift is publicly known for having three cats:

• Meredith Grey — inspired by Grey’s Anatomy
• Olivia Benson — inspired by Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
• Benjamin Button — inspired by The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

The first two are widely reported as Scottish Folds, while the third is reported as a Ragdoll.

The naming pattern is part of the fun: rather than choosing ordinary pet names, Swift connected her cats to fictional characters from television and film.

Meredith Grey

Meaning and Inspiration

Meredith Grey is Taylor Swift’s first well-known cat and was named after the central character from Grey’s Anatomy, portrayed by Ellen Pompeo. Swift reportedly adopted her in 2011.

The name has an intelligent, polished feel. It works particularly well for someone who wants a cat name that sounds like a real person’s name rather than a traditional pet name.

Name style: Elegant, literary, sophisticated
Inspiration: Television character
Reported breed: Scottish Fold
Best for: A graceful, independent, or dignified cat

The choice also fits Swift’s broader approach to naming her first two cats. She has discussed being drawn to strong, complex, independent female characters, making the names more personal than simple references to famous shows.

Olivia Benson

Meaning and Inspiration

Olivia Benson was named after the detective character played by Mariska Hargitay in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Swift welcomed this cat in 2014.It is an excel

ent example of a celebrity-inspired pet name because it sounds natural even if someone doesn’t recognize the television reference.

Name style: Strong, feminine, sophisticated
Inspiration: Television detective
Reported breed: Scottish Fold
Best for: A confident, curious, or watchful cat

The connection eventually became even more playful. Hargitay later named one of her own cats Karma, referencing one of Swift’s songs,a fun example of a celebrity friendship influencing pet names in both directions.

Benjamin Button

Meaning and Inspiration

Benjamin Button is the third famous cat in Swift’s feline family. The name references the title character from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Swift encountered the kitten while working on the “ME!” music video in 2019 and subsequently adopted him.

Unlike the first two names, this one comes from a film rather than a television character.

Name style: Charming, vintage, playful
Inspiration: Film character
Reported breed: Ragdoll
Best for: A fluffy, gentle, affectionate, or relaxed cat

His arrival also gave fans a memorable behind-the-scenes adoption story. Swift met the kitten during the production surrounding the music video and later confirmed that she had adopted him.

Why Taylor Swift’s Cat Names Are So Popular

There is a simple reason these names have stayed memorable: they combine personality, pop culture, and storytelling.

A good celebrity-inspired cat name doesn’t need to sound obviously connected to a celebrity. Instead, it can work as a normal name while carrying a hidden reference for fans.

Taylor’s choices demonstrate three useful naming approaches:

1. Choose a Character You Love

A favorite television or movie character can become a meaningful pet-name source.

2. Match the Name to Your Cat

A formal name can suit a dignified cat, while a playful reference may work better for an energetic kitten.

3. Pick a Name With a Story

A name becomes more memorable when you can explain why you chose it.

That’s one reason these three names work so well: each one has a recognizable story behind it.

How to Choose the Right Taylor-Inspired Cat Name

Choosing a celebrity-inspired name is fun, but your cat should ultimately determine the final choice.

Consider the Sound

Say the name out loud several times. Shorter names are often easier to call across a room.

Think About Your Cat’s Appearance

Color, markings, eye color, coat texture, and overall appearance can inspire a name.

A fluffy white cat might suit something soft and dreamy, while a sleek black cat could carry a darker, more dramatic name.

Consider Personality

Watch your cat for a few days before deciding.

Is your kitten:

• Curious?
• Quiet?
• Mischievous?
• Affectionate?
• Independent?
• Energetic?

The personality may reveal a better name than a random list.

Check the Nickname

A long name can be fun, but think about what you’ll naturally call your cat every day.

A name that has an easy nickname can give you both a formal version and a casual household version.

Make Sure You Still Like It Later

Kittens are adorable, but they eventually become adult cats. Choose something that will still sound appropriate years from now.

Popular vs. Unique Taylor-Inspired Names

There is no single best choice between a recognizable name and an unusual one.

Popular-style names are easy to understand and pronounce. They can also make the celebrity reference obvious.

Unique names give you a more subtle connection. They are particularly useful if you want something inspired by Taylor Swift without giving your cat an immediately recognizable reference.

For example, a direct character-inspired name creates a clear pop-culture connection, while something like Sonnet, Meadow, or Velvet creates a more understated literary or aesthetic feeling.
